Baseball Exercises

By thebaseballstore.net added on Thu, 20 Nov 2008

Even when the baseball season is over with, you can still do something to keep in practice and shape. Doing specialized baseball exercises will ensure that you are always prepared to play and will be at your best. Unlike other exercises, the ones for baseball players target certain muscle groups that are important for batting, pitching and ball throwing. Another advantage to baseball exercises it that it will reduce the risk of injury since your body will be able to handle whatever may come while actually playing the game.

In general baseball exercises will not be done on machines since they will not help you train the right areas. For baseball, free weights, such as dumbbells, should be used. This gives you the freedom to move your arms in the fashion necessary to play baseball and you can target your pitching strength and speed or the batting motions. When doing baseball exercises, you will have to pay attention to the amount of weight used for training routines. Excessive weight will not help you get in shape for playing baseball, so you will have to use moderate weights and try to get the highest possible initial speed. Using more weights will actually help you become worse at baseball, since your judgment will be off and you will start to develop a habit of training wrong baseball techniques. Another problem with using excessive weights while training for baseball is that you will increase the risk of joint injury. Since baseball involves throwing or swinging a bat, it is important not to strain any of these parts since you might end up sitting out a season for it.

Baseball exercises have to be learned and you should find an expert in the field, because trainers for other sports or gyms will not know the special techniques used for baseball players. Many will try to have you copy the motions used when playing baseball, which is a great mistake. The techniques of baseball should only be used when actually using the proper equipment, such as a standard baseball or 45 oz. bat. Nothing else should be used and especially not in the gym or when using free weights.

When doing baseball exercises, focus on speed and initial speed of throwing a ball or swinging a bat. This can be practiced and the best way to improve it is to do baseball exercises which focus on the most important muscle groups. If you are not sure which muscles are important in baseball, you can research this online or ask a baseball training expert.
