How to avoid shoulder injuries in baseballBy thebaseballstore.net added on Thu, 14 May 2009Baseball is rather a distinctive game because many a times you have to perform movements that are not natural. For example collecting and throwing ball in baseball is not a natural movement of your shoulder. Basically your shoulders are not designed to perform such actions and hence there is an every chance of your shoulder getting injured. As you know shoulder joint is the weakest joint compared to other joints. Hence a lot of precaution is needed to maintain a strong and healthy shoulder. First of all plan a daily workout routine that includes shoulder exercises the most. Plan few minutes of warm up to start with that involves shoulder movements and then go for resistance training workouts which is a full body workout. Focus more on lightweight rather than heavy weights. Planning workouts that benefit your shoulder joints, abdomen, and limbs can be very helpful. You can even involve stretching exercises in your daily routine. Plan and perform baseball drills according to your body conditions. Don't perform shoulder exercises until you get exhausted. This may lead to further trouble in future. The aim of training must be to improve your stamina and efficiency, not tiring you. You must try and avoid exercises that involve heavy weights as major shoulder injuries are caused by inappropriate lifting methods. Even heavy crunches and presses must be avoided as they can put an extra amount of strain on the shoulder joints. It's important for a baseball player to have flexible shoulders and at the same time maintain healthy shoulder. In early stages just try and throw baseball lightly until you get used to the pace. Don't get excited and just focus on adapting the proper techniques of throwing so that your shoulder muscles get used to it. Massage is another effective way of relaxing your shoulder muscles. Regular massage will support healthy blood circulation and help the weaker tissues in repairing process. It will keep your body relaxed and help in bringing back your body to normal. Avoid massage if you've a serious hamstring. Here the old fashioned technique of ice bath can be effective to keep swelling in control to a certain extent. Finally, don't forget to take care of proper diet and try and consume nutrients that supports in building lean muscles. A proper healthy diet with sufficient resistance training will help build your muscles strong and healthy. Remember having strong shoulder means everything in baseball.
