Posture

By thebaseballstore.net added on Thu, 04 Dec 2008

A key element of baseball training is posture. A good posture has many benefits to a player, but the main one is an increased balance or the capability to totally control your body and its movements. This can be worked on and balance is the result of practicing correct posture while training. There are many concepts that have to be recognized before you will be able to develop a perfect posture and thus your balance.

The first rule of training balance through posture is that the core of your body comes first and the extremities like arms and legs second. This means that your posture and balance come from the middle and works its way outward. Another rule is that you must train movements and not your muscles. The movements are affected by posture which can ultimately lead to you controlling your body and gaining a sense of balance. Last but not least you will have to take into account that the only way to have stable movements in an unstable environment is to always have a good posture that keeps you aligned.

Posture and balance have been pretty much neglected in the past and that has not helped any baseball player. There was a trend towards training in gyms, but that does not serve a baseball player any purposes since it only trains musculature and extremities, just what is not important when it comes to balance and a correct posture. This makes it hard to rely on old basic balance training techniques, since they are practically obsolete. The machine based training has also resulted in an overall weaker posture and that can be corrected by incorporated core exercises and adding variety to your training program. By varying your baseball training program, you will keep yourself from getting used to a certain movement and instead you will stimulate your body which will develop a wide range of motions that support a good balance.

There are many simple ways to add variety to your routine and develop a better posture. You can just simply do your workout on a different floor surface, such as on sand instead of the grassy field. You will have to be creative when working out every part of your body, because a good posture is a result of a well rounded training program. Since many do not have a good balance or posture, you will have to start with simple exercises and then work your way up to the more advanced workouts.
