Record Keeping

By thebaseballstore.net added on Thu, 06 Nov 2008

Every serious athlete will know that record keeping is a big part of the program. This involves more than just writing down what you did during your daily workout. It also means taking notes on your diet each day, feelings during training towards the weights or repetitions used and also any random thoughts or ideas you may have that are relevant to your training. Baseball players that keep a personal training journal should pay attention to every detail so that the best possible workout program can be created that will result in you becoming the best you can be in your position.

Record keeping is especially useful when creating the most effective workout program. For resistance training it is necessary to record each exercise done, the times repeated and the weights used. If you strained yourself too much, then you can use the details in your journal to create a different, less strenuous workout. On the other hand, if it was not enough you can experiment and find the right exercise and the right weights and repetitions for it. Keeping records is vital to finding the right routine, since you will never lose track of what was right or wrong. If you attempt an exercise that you can not do or which resulted in pain afterwards, that definitely belongs in your journal to remind you of that later on. This can also be used as a guideline to progressively increase your workout standards and you will also be able to see your progress and results.

There are other things that belong in your journal and daily record keeping. If you had an injury, that most go in it and then after healing you will learn to avoid exercises that could do damage once again. Your energy level is another factor to be recorded since the workout will have to suit your energy or you will increase your risk of injury. The time of day you feel your best for training is also worth mentioning in your journal, since that is a potential factor in your program’s success. How long you train in a single workout must be mentioned in your journal also.

Furthermore, you can use your record keeping as a way of improving yourself and your baseball training program. If you see a new technique somewhere, then write it down for future reference. Even any of your own ideas that can improve your workout should be written in the journal, because you may be able to work on that later on.
